In North Port, ongoing complaints about the condition of the city’s roadways may lead to a referendum on a major street construction project. North Port residents could be asked to approve a 41-million-dollar package of road repairs if the referendum makes it to the November ballot. That’s not certain yet as the North Port City Commission continues to study reports about the city’s roads. Street department officials say about thirty-five percent of the city’s roads — some 266 miles of them — are now in poor condition.
