North Port’s City Commission may have done a big favor for a lot of residents facing code enforcement cases: lower penalties. The Commission today decided to lower fines in all unsettled code enforcement cases prior to the adoption of reforms in 2010. The changes include A $25-a-day fine for a violation of the land development code, with a maximum total of $2,000; A $50-a-day fine for a violation of the building code, with a maximum total of $5,000; and A $10-a-day fine for a violation of any other law, with a maximum total of $1,000. Residents will also be able to apply to the code enforcement board for “lien relief.”
