The arrival of the new year means the shutdown of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s South County jail, a move that will save the SCSO roughly $1.04 million.  The Englewood Sun reports Sheriff Tom Knight ‘s said it wasn’t money or budgetary reasons the jail was closing, citing a lack of medical and food services at the facility, along with the inability to process juvenile offenders, as a few of the other reasons for its closure.
