Charlotte County students headed back to the classroom today and found some new security measures in place. The most obvious is that every school now has only one point of entry, making it easier for staff to monitor who enters the building. Schools maintained their multiple exits in case of emergency, but they do not allow for re-entry to the facilities. The new measures to upfit all schools built before Hurricane Charley in 2004 were funded by a one-cent sales tax.
