A new vocational school in North Port took another step forward this week. The Sarasota County School Board approved a pre-construction agreement with contractor Willis Smith to begin detailing material needs, scheduling, and cost estimations for the new Suncoast Technical College campus. It will be about another year before shovels hit the dirt in the nearly $18 million project, but both the school board and the contractor are happy to have reached this phase after another contractor filed a complaint over the selection process, which delayed the latest development by about six months.
