Opening statements set today in the trial of a North Port man accused of fatally stabbing a Port Charlotte man in 2009.

David Wayne Price is charged with second-degree murder, grand theft and burglary in connection with the Nov. 1, 2009, incident in which he allegedly stabbed Phillip Charles Casper to death following a drug deal. Price and another person had gone to Casper’s home, according to court records, to sell him $80 work of crack cocaine. After an argument ended with Casper stabbed, Poe and Price each blamed the other. Poe has already been convicted for his role in the murder, and will testify during Price’s trial, which is expected to last the week.
