An ongoing project at Mote aims to try and recreate mini-ecosystems in order to better predict the impact of climate change.
The Herald-Tribune reports the lab has more than 50 tanks, split between water conditions now and as projected in the year 2100.
The main difference between the two is the acidification and temperature of the water.
Mote officials say these types of future forecasts and studies would not have been possible prior to the opening of the $7M center last year.
