Sarasota, FL – March 31, 2024 – Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium is proud to announce significant progress on the development of the Mote Science Education Aquarium (Mote SEA) at Nathan Benderson Park. Since breaking ground on November 13, 2020, we have been diligently preparing the grounds, marking a crucial milestone in our journey towards establishing this vital cultural, educational, and economic asset.

Mote SEA represents a commitment to empowering the next generation of ocean stewards. Through immersive experiences, hands-on learning opportunities, and educational initiatives, we aim to deepen public understanding of marine science and foster a greater appreciation for the ocean’s significance in sustaining life on Earth.

Our ambitious campaign, “Oceans for All: Improving Access to Marine Science & Technology,” underscores our dedication to creating a more inclusive and informed society. By situating Mote SEA at Nathan Benderson Park, a central location in Sarasota and Manatee counties, we ensure accessibility for a diverse range of communities, both locally and globally.

Notably, Mote SEA will serve as a regional hub for marine science and technology education, providing enriching experiences for K-12 students and inspiring the next generation of scientists and innovators. This strategic initiative aligns with our mission to promote ocean literacy and advance scientific knowledge.

Moreover, the establishment of Mote SEA allows us to reimagine our primary campus on City Island, Sarasota, as an enhanced International Marine Science, Technology & Innovation Park. This transformation will further our commitment to advancing marine research, conservation, and sustainable development on a global scale.

As we forge ahead with the development of Mote SEA, we invite individuals, organizations, and stakeholders to join us in our mission to create a brighter, more sustainable future for our oceans and planet.
