Lots of Memorial Day events and, of course, government service closures or cutbacks for Memorial Day Weekend. Governor Rick Scott is expected to highlight the many local ceremonies this weekend with an appearance at Sarasota National Cemetery at one-thirty on Sunday. Sarasota’s Memorial Day Parade kicks off Monday morning a ten along Main Street to J-D Hamel Park. In Venice, the high school band will provide patriotic music as a Memorial Day ceremony at Veteran Park Monday at ten. North Port’s observance also starts at ten at Veterans Park there. In Punta Gorda, music and a ceremony beginning at eleven at Fishermen’s Wharf. All government offices, of course, closed on Monday.
