The man convicted in the 1999 killing of 3-year-old Pilar Rodriguez was sentenced to life in prison Monday morning by a Charlotte County judge. Keith Wilson’s attorney first filed a motion for acquittal, which was quickly denied. Judge George Richards said the girl already lived a hard life in 3 years with both an absent mother and father. Richards said Wilson made it even worse by eventually torturing the girl to death, leading him to determine a sentence of life in prison was appropriate. Melissa Harding-Jones, the girl’s babysitter, and Wilson’s ex-girlfriend, took a plea deal in the case for her role in hiding the crime. She’s scheduled for sentencing Jan. 18 and faces 30 years in prison.
