A Cape Coral man was arrested in Venice for allegedly doctor shopping to get pain pills. Authorities tell the Herald-Tribune, 35-year old Ernest Wilkins, traveled from Cape Coral to Brandon to fill prescriptions for hydrocodone, Roxicet and oxycodone. He was arrested yesterday in the ER at Venice Regional Medical Center, after allegedly trying to get another script for pain killers. The doctor who saw him in the ER searched Wilkins history on Florida’s Prescription Monitoring website and discovered he’d gotten five prescriptions for pain killers from doctors in Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres, North Fort Myers, Punta Gorda and Brandon in less than a month. He’s in the South Sarasota County Jail, charged with fraud by concealing information to obtain prescriptions.
