A potential robber carried a baseball bat as he broke into a North Port home last Thursday.

He got the surprise of his life.

A man inside the house put him in a bear hug, and that man’s wife grabbed the bat and beat him.

Authorities say 33-year-old Noah Dassat of Santa Cruz, Calif. ran away from the home.

However, they caught up with Dassat after they say he used a fake name while receiving treatment for his injuries at a hospital.

He now stands accused of armed robbery, battery, and criminal mischief.

North Port Police say Dassat broke into the home with the couple and their three children inside it.

He remains in the Charlotte County Jail.
