A branch of a national nonprofit that hopes to prevent domestic violence recently held a day-long bystander training seminar in Charlotte County. The group is called Green Dot, and according to data from the CDC, interpersonal violence at high schools in Kentucky dropped after implementation of the organization’s bystander training programs. Those programs include scenarios where volunteers are asked to explain the level of responsibility they feel toward situations like sexual assault, child abuse and workplace violence. Charlotte County is the only Green Dot outpost in Southwest Florida for now, but training sessions are open to anyone. The next session is July 17th from 9-3 at Fellowship Church of Englewood.
