Yet another Florida congressional district map has been rejected. Circuit Judge George Reynolds blasted the state legislature for submitting a map that clearly favored Republicans and incumbents. Reynolds noted in his ruling that the map handed to him came by way of GOP Sen. Bill Galvano, who is in charge of Senate Republican reelection efforts and is next in line to be Senate president. Galvano submitted the map without input from other lawmakers. Reynolds rejected Galvano’s map, citing conflicts of interest on the matter, and instead chose a map proposed by a coalition of voters’ rights groups to send to the Florida Supreme Court. Reynolds said the coalition map is the most compact of any option he’s seen. Of local interest, it would keep Sarasota County in one Senate district.
