The Sarasota County Criminal Justice Commission on Monday discussed the potential drawbacks to the state Legislature’s proposal of having state inmates with less than a year left to serve finishing out their sentences in county jails.
The proposal drew fierce opposition from the Florida Association of Counties at its legislative conference last week in Sarasota. Fears are it would add more than 300 inmates to an already crowded Sarasota County Jail system.
