As the economy has rebounded and gas prices have dropped, local bus ridership has declined.
The News-Press reports a general statewide decline in the number of people taking the bus regularly.
It shows Sarasota County Area Transit has lost 6.3 percent of its riders.
Nationally, the number of unlinked bus trips has fallen 2.8 percent in the last year.
The American Public Transportation Association says trolley use has shrunk 7.4 percent.
