Hurricane Idalia is currently a Category 1 storm with winds of 85 mph, moving north at 14 mph. It is still forecast to make landfall as a Category 3 hurricane between Tampa and the Big Bend. Highest degree of the impacts are likely overnight.
There’s a 82% chance of encountering tropical storm force winds, and a 12% chance of facing stronger tropical storm force winds.
Storm surge forecast is currently 2 to 4 feet above ground level in Charlotte County. Rainfall of 6” or more near the coast with totals lessening as you move inland. Coastal or localized flooding possible. Tornado threat are a possibility with all tropical systems.
