Hundreds of people took part yesterday in what has become one of southwest Florida’s biggest 4th of July festivals. The annual Freedom Swim was yesterday in Punta Gorda, and people went in everything from boats to inflatable ducks to water wings. The 1.5 mile trip across the harbor started as just a summer activity among friends, and has since grown to an event that brings out hundreds of boaters, kayakers, swimmers, and paddleboarders.
