Southwest Florida is seeing a rising trend in poisoning from hand sanitizer. Most brands contain nearly 70 percent alcohol, and just a few squirts ingested from a bottle can give a small child a buzz. Last year, Lee Memorial Hospital treated eight children ages 10-17 for hand sanitizer poisoning. Charlotte County uses alcohol-free sanitizer.
