A gyrocopter crashed at the Red Neck Yacht Club in Punta Gorda this afternoon. Charlotte County Fire & EMS responded to the incident that touched off a fire. The aircraft’s pilot sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. The fire burned about a half-acre before firefighters could extinguish the blaze. No word on other injuries or damages in the incident. At latest check, the pilot’s name has not been released.
