Florida Republican Party Chairman Dave Bitner of Port Charlotte says today he’s leaving his post as head of the state G-O-P for health reasons. Bitner, a former Port Charlotte lawmaker, has been diagnosed with A-L-S, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. In a letter to state Republicans, he says that diagnosis is what’s leading to his resignation from the Republican leadership post, effective September 23rd. Bitner also a longtime general manager of the Charlotte Sun newspaper.
