If you live in one of three Charlotte County communities, you can get a free smoke detector installed in your home this week.

For safety’s sake, Charlotte County Fire and EMS and the American Red Cross have teaming up to make the detectors available to residents in El Jobean, Parkside and Tropical Gulf Acres, areas that are considered vulnerable. WINK reports organizers say the alarm from a smoke detector gave a Punta Gorda woman enough time to get out of her home ahead of a fire early Easter Sunday. All you have to do to get a detector is call the American Red Cross.
