The Buddhist Association of Central Florida got unanimous approval from the Sarasota County Planning Commission to rezone 8.7 acres in Englewood for what would be the region’s first forest monastery. Backers hope to purchase the land by the end of this month but have to wait on actually building the monastery until getting final approval of the rezoning from the full Sarasota County Commission, which is next scheduled to meet in October. The tract is a few blocks from the Dearborn shopping district.
