The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has arrested three men out of dozens involved in a well-organized and coordinated efforts to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars from renters.
Although they operated in Florida, they could be tied to a much larger national organized crime ring.
Juan Carballo Martinez is accused of traveling from Nevada and contributing to the theft of 443 money orders totaling $229,000.
Law enforcement agents said he worked alongside his son, a popular DJ, who appeared at the Latin Grammy Awards as DJ Cubano. His real name is Juan Carlos Carballo-Mendoza.
Judge Janeice Martin suggested there is a large scope to this scam operation– with wide-ranging suspects, locations, and victims.
Also in court, Wendy Leon-Ruiz, who was busted by state investigators and officers from nine different Florida counties where the three men will need to be eventually transported one by one.
