The next installment in Florida’s congressional redistricting saga started today in a Tallahassee courtroom. Seven different proposals are being considered by Leon County Circuit Judge Terry Lewis, including maps from two interest groups that were not presented during the recent special session that failed to reach a consensus on the issue. Two maps submitted by the Florida Senate keep all of Sarasota County in a single district; however, a lawyer representing the Senate conceded that this element could be ignored since the state Supreme Court did not specifically mention it in the July 9 decision to nullify the existing map.
