A couple of wild fires have merged into one larger blaze late this afternoon in the South Gulf Cove area of Charlotte County. The flames are threatening several nearby homes as wind and dry conditions make them difficult to get under control. Fire crews from Charlotte, Sarasota and Lee Counties as well as from Englewood have been called in. The fires are threatening homes in the area of Gasparilla Road and Keystone Boulevard. This is the second day in which firefighters from multiple agencies have had to be called to battle wild fires. Yesterday, nearly a dozen different agencies plus Forestry Division aircraft fought a fire along Fruitville Road in Sarasota County.
