They’re calling it Ransomeware. The FBI warning of a new virus that hijacks your computer, locks it up, and asks for money, some even claiming to be the FBI. A message can pop up claiming that you’ve committed federal offenses in your internet searches, and that you have to pay a fine or go to jail. For a mere few hundred dollars via MoneyGram or prepaid debit card, they’ll unlock your computer. Computer experts recommend that you have your computer set up with two separate user accounts. That way if hackers gain control of one user account, you have a second that will still allow you to access the computer software and purge the virus. And DON’T send any money.
