A fatal accident occurred Friday at the intersection of US-41 and Oak, resulting in the death of one driver and injuries to two others.

The crash involved three individuals from different cities and is currently under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Preliminary information indicates that a 29-year-old man from Nokomis, accompanied by a 26-year-old woman from Venice in the passenger seat, had come to a stop at a stop sign at the end of Oak Street. Simultaneously, a 66-year-old man from Fort Wayne, Indiana, was driving his SUV in the left lane of US-41.

For reasons yet to be determined, the occupants of the sedan proceeded past the stop sign. While investigators are still piecing together the details, it is established that the sedan entered the path of the SUV, resulting in a collision on the driver’s side of the couple’s car.

Tragically, the 29-year-old Nokomis man lost his life at the crash site.
