Knight and Don Pedro Islands finally have long-term fire protection. Charlotte County Commissioners voting to allow the Englewood Fire District to provide fire service to the two islands for the next five years. A disagreement had arisen over how long the service could be provided. Island residents originally asked for six months to a year but the Fire District said it couldn’t do it for less than three years and preferred a five-year deal. That’s now happening and Englewood’s fire service to Knight and Don Pedro is slated to begin in January.
