Authorities say the unidentified man woke up to the sound of his dog barking around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday. The man said he also heard a popping sound coming from the garage of his Murdock home. When he opened the door to investigate, he found his garage engulfed in flames. Charlotte County Fire and EMS responded to the blaze. The man and his dog were able to escape the home uninjured. The Red Cross has stepped in to provide temporary assistance. The State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating to determine how the fire started.
