A fire destroyed a home in North Fort Myers this morning. The North Fort Myers Fire Control District said that the family dog alerted the family of four, which prompted them to escape the house shortly before 5 a.m. However, witnesses on scene said a dog died. It’s unclear at this time if the dog that died was the same one that alerted the family to leave. The fire happened in Island Vista Estates, east of the Shell Factory, off of Mongoose Lane. The smoke alarms did not appear to be in working order.
