Health Management Associates Inc., owner of Venice Regional Medical Center and Charlotte County’s Peace River Regional Medical Center and Charlotte Regional Medical Center, could be a takeover target. The Herald-Tribune’s reports that Community Health Systems Inc., HCA Holdings Inc. and LifePoint Hospitals Inc. may be interested in acquiring HMA. There’s been no comment on the takeover talk from any of the companies. HMA’s already in a fight with Glenview Capital management, which owns 15% of the company and isn’t happy with the return its been getting on its investment. HMA’s worth an estimated $4.4-billion.
