WIth overnight temperatures dipping below freezing, homeless shelters are filling up fast. WInd chill factors should push temps down into the twenties tonight and patchy frost is expected. Charlotte County Emergency Management says the Port Charlotte Cold Weather Shelter is open at the Salvation Army Facility on Loveland Boulevard in Port Charlotte. It can hold 50 people. The Englewood shelter is also available at St David’s Episcopal Church on South Broadway. In Sarasota County, cold weather shelters are also open tonight at the Salvation Army Center of Hope on Tenth Street in Sarasota. South County shelter locations include St. David’s Episcopal Church in Englewood and Center of Hope in Venice. Anyone needing cold weather assistance in North Port is being asked to call North Port police for transportation to the nearest shelter.
