Charlotte County schools are hoping the Punta Gorda City Council will review a new public safety policy that penalizes multiple false alarms for fire and burglaries. Schools are now facing at least two thousand dollars in fines due to prank false alarms. The worst offender by far: Charlotte High School, which has been tagged for more than sixty false alarms in a one-year span. No other location has more than ten. The fines are part of a new ordinance that went into effect in May that fines locals if police or firefighters have to respond to a false alarm more than twice. School officials say they’ll appeal the fines.
