Charlotte County is on TikTok!
In a press release last week, Charlotte County Florida Government announced that it has added the social media platform TikTok to reach more citizens.
You can Follow on TikTok @charlottecountyflorida or view page at You can download the TikTok app from the Apple App store or Google Play store.
“We’re adding TikTok to our social media strategy because it gives us the opportunity to target a younger demographic with messaging about county events, jobs and news,” said Charlotte County Communications Manager Brian Gleason. “More than 50% of TikTok users are under 34 years of age and nearly a third are between 10 and 19. Those are people we can reach with info about parks and recreation events like the recent back-to-school backpack giveaway, and job openings for camp counselors and lifeguards, for example.”
Cities, counties and other public agencies across the United States have been turning to TikTok to engage people in their communities who don’t consume traditional media. The cities of Tampa, Austin, Texas and Minneapolis, Minn., have garnered tens of thousands of followers. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Rays have a combined 800,000 followers.
“Our plan is to create content that engages with members of the TikTok community by featuring programs and amenities the county has to offer, highlighting our beautiful natural resources and raising awareness of county policies and initiatives,” said Charlotte County Social Media Manager Ashley Turner, who will be making two presentations about social media trends and best practices next month at the Florida Recreation and Park Association annual conference.
TikTok joins an array of social media platforms the county uses in its “reach people how they want to be reached” media strategy, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Nextdoor and LinkedIn.
