Charlotte County’s got a plan to protect the coastline along Manasota Key.

The plan won’t be cheap. The county’s planning to spend $29-million over 25-years on what’s called a groin, similar to a jetty, along the southernmost tip of the key in Stump Pass Park. NBC2 reports it’ll be a barrier against the park pushing further inland. Over time, the rock wall’s expected to help sand collect near the shore extending it. Area residents have noticed the rising tides and think the plan’s a good investment. The county’s working on using Restore Act funds to help pay for the project due to be completed in the Spring of 2015.
