The so-called Sidewalk Ordinance we’ve been telling you about may be dead in Charlotte County. The proposal would have banned sitting on sidewalks by pedestrians or bicyclists as a way to control where homeless people hang out. Now, the Charlotte County Commissioners have decided it’s a bad idea. At their meeting last night, the commissioners voted to kill the measure before it ever gets a public hearing. Had it passed, the ordinance would have made Charlotte County the only one in Florida to restrict a person’s right to sit or lie on a public sidewalk.
