Charlotte County commissioners have rejected a $7 million request for repairs and renovations to the Family Services Center in Port Charlotte. The facility is home to the local Boys and Girls Club, which provides after-school programming for at-risk youth. County leaders would prefer to combine the club with the County Cultural Center, which primarily serves retirees, to encourage interaction between the two age groups and to streamline building operations and expense. However, there remains uncertainty over whether either building will be updated or if both programs will move to a different location altogether. In the meantime, the 120 children served daily by the Boys and Girls Club will have to make-do with their current setup.
