Charlotte County Commissioners have ditched a plan to send stray animals to DeSoto County, where the animals would be euthanized if not adopted within four days. They’d been considering cutting off funding for the county’s Animal Welfare League in order to save taxpayer dollars. ABC7 reports they’re proposing renewing their contract with the AWL, but lowering funding to $230,000 from $240,000, even though sending stray animals to DeSoto would save an estimated $80,000 a year. AWL says money will still be tight, but the animals will be better cared for in Charlotte County.
