Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Cameron says, “The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Team will be conducting multiple low manpower DUI saturation checkpoints around the County during the New Year’s weekend (Dec. 30-Jan. 1). Our deputies will stop traffic and conduct various test procedures looking for impaired drivers.”

The Sheriff Office does not announce date, time, or location of saturation DUI checkpoints in hopes it will deter those who may drink and drive, or use drugs and drive.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles, Charlotte County has recorded a total of 25 traffic fatalities so far this year; last year at this time there were 20. Total for all of 2010 was 21.
