The Economic Crimes Unit is attempting to identify a man who tried to buy liquor with a fraudulent credit card on July 3 at a Charlotte Harbor business.

On Wednesday July 3 at about 1:30 pm, a Black male tried to use a VISA credit card to purchase four bottles of liquor from the ABC Liquors at 4250 Tamiami Trail in Charlotte Harbor. When the man swiped the credit card, it came back with a message to the clerk to hold the card. The man provided the clerk with an out of state identification card in the same name as that on the credit card. The man told the clerk he needed to go to his vehicle to get cash to make the purchase, but he never returned.

The man was described as being about 6 ft. 5 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He had short hair and a goatee. He was wearing a white shirt, red pants and a red hat. He left in a dark grey pickup truck with an unknown tag.

Anyone with information concerning the identity of the man is asked to please call the Sheriff’s Office at (941) 639-2101, or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
