Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Port Charlotte man found inside a foreclosed home this morning at 3:55 a.m. Brandon Michael Smiddy, 26, 2251 Lee Terrace, refused commands by a K9 Officer to come out; the K9 was released into the home and subdued Smiddy. The K9 found him hiding in a bathroom.

It began when a neighbor said he woke up when his dog began barking. He said he saw a subject in a white shirt enter the back window of the home that hadn’t been lived in the past month. He then called CCSO.

Deputies reported that Smiddy knew the former occupants of the home and was aware of them being evicted after foreclosure proceedings. He entered the bank owned home and set up illegal residence inside without permission of the current owners of the property.

Smiddy was arrested for Trespass and Resisting Without Violence. He was transported to a hospital where he was treated for several dog bite injuries. Around 9:30 a.m. he was taken to the Charlotte County Jail where he is being held on $2,000 bond. This is Smiddy’s eighth booking; he is a convicted felon.
