(PUNTA GORDA) Charlotte County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit detectives Sunday afternoon charged Roy Lee Poore, 35, 6200 Rumford Street, Punta Gorda, with Attempted Second Degree Murder. A 38 year old Punta Gorda man received multiple serious stab wounds around 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of East Marion Ave., Drury and Charlotte streets. Charlotte County EMS transported the man to Lee Memorial Hospital Trauma Unit. Detectives say the man is now listed in stable condition; his name has not been released pending further investigation.

The investigation did lead to Poore’s home at 6200 Rumford Street, however, no one responded for several hours. Deputies established a perimeter around the home and area; a search warrant was requested. SWAT team members were called out at 10:30 a.m.; MCU detectives report moments before the search warrant was served around 1:55 p.m., Roy Poore came out with his hands up and surrendered peacefully. Also in the home were two women and two children. Poore was arrested and taken to the Charlotte County Jail. Detectives are questioning those who were in the home; it is unknown if other arrests will be made at this time. Detectives are now searching the home for any evidence possibly related to the stabbing incident.

Prior to the stabbing, a CCSO deputy was observing a known drug house on Drury Lane and saw April May Poore, 38, 29430 South Jones Loop Road, come from the home and walk toward East Marion Avenue. She was stopped, searched, and the deputy found two pill bottles in her possession. The deputy also noticed she had at least two suspected Roxycodone pills in her mouth which she swallowed. EMS was called but treatment was not needed and she was taken to the Charlotte County Jail. She was charged with Possession of Roxycodone, Possession of Hydromorphone, Tampering with Evidence, and Violation of Probation. April Poore is a twice convicted felon with six bookings; she remains in jail on no bond.

MCU detectives continue their investigation to see if there was any connection with the arrest of April Poore on drug charges, and the stabbing incident a short time later in the same area that resulted in the arrest of her brother Roy Poore.
