A DeSoto County man who stopped his vehicle in the middle of SR 31 and fell asleep was arrested after deputies located both methadone pills and several baggies of crystal meth in his pocket.   It happened early Monday morning on SR31 south of Bermont Road.  40-year old Derek Conrad of Arcadia was asleep in his car in southbound lanes.  He woke up when a deputy spoke to him, but couldn’t tell them where he was coming from.  He consented to a search and a deputy found a bag in his front pants pocket that had several other plastic baggies.  One had five small white pills of  methadone.  There were also five separate baggies with 8.5 grams of a substance that tested positive for crystal meth.  Conrad was charged with Possession of Meth with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of Methadone and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  He was booked into the Charlotte County Jail and released on $17,500 bond.
