(SOUTH PUNTA GORDA HEIGHTS) Charlotte County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit detectives Sunday morning arrested three men for Home Invasion Robbery; a fourth is in a local hospital after the home owner shot him.

CCSO received a call at 9:48 p.m. Saturday night from the owner of a home at 11252 First Avenue who reported two black males broke into his home and he shot one of them. He said they drove off in a four door vehicle. A deputy in route to the scene observed the car running red lights that was occupied by several black males and appeared heading to Charlotte Regional Medical Center. The car stopped at the hospital with four subjects; one was rushed into surgery after being shot.

MCU detectives said the victim told them a man known to him only as “Josh” came to his house and said he was looking for the victim’s son. The victim allowed him to enter and again advised that his son was at his mother’s and not in his home. A few seconds later, two men wearing bandanas across their face entered the home armed with semi-automatic handguns. The victim told detectives the two men told him and ‘Josh’ to “Freeze and get to the ground.” Josh complied but the victim ran to his bedroom where he kept his revolver and hid in his closet.

The victim then said the two subjects entered the bedroom and turned the lights on. The victim fearing for his life fired one shot into one of the subjects closest to him; the second man retreated. The subject, who was shot hid behind the bed, pointed and pulled the trigger of the gun at the victim. The victim then fired one more shot toward the subject with the gun. The wounded man ran out of the bedroom and the home while the others outside were yelling for him to “Hurry.” The victim told detectives he heard four shots outside that were fired at his home; detectives recovered spent casings outside. All four subjects fled in a Mercury Grand Marquis.

Detectives identified the subjects as:
Jarmeel Earl Bennett, 21, 15530 Mapletree Drive, South Punta Gorda Heights.
Joshua Correll Sayed, 20, 25550 Banff Lane, Deep Creek.
Pheneathius Sharbrail Brown, 18, 803 Hazel Avenue, Punta Gorda.
Fredrick Deon Moorehead, 19, 1618 Yellow Pine Court, Punta Gorda (In hospital).

Moorehead remains hospitalized due to the severity of his injuries and will be charged with Home Invasion Robbery upon his release. Bennett, Sayed and Brown remain in the Charlotte County Jail on no bond. The investigation continues.
