The Charlotte County Sheriff’s office says a news paper carrier reported seeing a car hit several mailboxes along Broadmoor Lane before crashing into the canal. Englewood fire rescue responded to the scene and transported 32-year-old Matthew Ryan McCann to Englewood Community Hospital. Deputies interviewed McCann at the hospital where at first he said a woman was driving. He later changed his story and told investigators that he was actually the driver and that his two chihuhuas were the only other occupants in the vehicle. The dogs are both fine. McCann was cited for careless driving.
