After preliminary results showed Florida students’ scores significantly lower in the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Tests, an emergency meeting of the state board of education made a drastic change: lowering the scores needed to pass the writing part of the exams. This after a first look at results indicated as many as two-thirds of the state’s students would fail to pass. That brought about complaints from school administrators. Board members say the change was necessary, although they were reluctant to make it.
