A Venice legislator has filed a bill titled “Protection of Religious Freedom,” which has many in the LGBT community concerned. Rep. Julio Gonzalez entered the proposal that provides immunity for businesses who refuse services based on moral or religious grounds. Critics say it is a thinly-veiled attempt to discriminate against gay and lesbian persons. Gonzalez says he is frustrated that lawmakers in Tallahassee seem more concerned about issues in other states than here at home.
