Sarasota County may allow people to raise chickens in their backyards.
The Herald-Tribune reports county commissioners have decided to hold public hearings next month to discuss this possibility.
People living outside Sarasota’s city limits would have the opportunity to raise four hens in their backyards.
A lobbying group supporting this idea says it would allow people to harvest fresh eggs for personal consumption.
The hearings take place Aug. 2 and 3.
