The Florida Department of Agriculture has recognized a pair of Manatee County Schools for giving students nutritional options, as well as promoting activity outside the classroom. Ballard Elementary and Kinnan Elementary are the two, along with six other schools that were notified by Adam Putnam from the Department of Agriculture. Ballard and Kinnan are two of 384 schools certified as a HealhierUS School by the department.
On the flipside, two schools in Sarasota County may have rat problems. Bay Haven and Southside Elementary Schools are the two schools that the Sarasota County School District have said have brought in a company to look at the issue. The buildings are nearly 100 years old and may have areas that rats are able to gain entry.
